CQI-29 Brazing Audit Services
VyVy provides CQI-29 Audit Services for automotive manufacturers and suppliers that need an independent assessment of a brazing process. We audit the brazing system against the applicable AIAG CQI-29 Brazing System Assessment, customer requirements and the actual production conditions at the facility. Our work is carried out at your own plant or directly at your supplier. The purpose is not simply to verify that a CQI-29 assessment has been completed. It is to establish whether the process controls are capable of producing repeatable, acceptable brazed joints.

What Our CQI-29 Brazing Auditors Verify
A brazed joint can fail even when the furnace cycle appears correct. Joint geometry, contamination, filler metal, flux, atmosphere, fixturing or thermal conditions can all change the result.
Our assessment therefore follows the process from part preparation through final verification.

Joint Preparation and Product Requirements
We review drawing requirements, joint design, specified clearance, surface condition and the controls used before brazing.
Brazing Materials
Filler metal, flux where applicable, base materials, identification, storage and handling are checked against defined requirements.
Thermal Process
We verify the parameters that control the brazing cycle, including temperature, time, furnace profile and atmosphere or vacuum conditions where applicable.
Fixturing and Equipment
Fixtures must maintain the joint condition required by the process. Furnaces, induction systems, flame equipment and monitoring devices are reviewed according to the brazing technology.
Braze Quality Verification
We review the inspection and testing used to demonstrate joint quality, together with acceptance criteria, records and reaction to nonconforming results.
CQI-29 itself places specific emphasis on process monitoring, parameter documentation, maintenance, fixturing/tooling and braze-quality inspection.
BRAZING PROCESS
CQI-29 Audits for CAB, Vacuum, Flame and Induction Brazing
The audit is adapted to the technology in use.
For Controlled Atmosphere Brazing, attention may include furnace profile, atmosphere control, flux application, joint preparation and process consistency.
For vacuum brazing, the assessment concentrates on vacuum and thermal conditions, cleanliness, furnace performance and process records.
For flame brazing, operator technique, heat application, filler-metal control and repeatability become particularly important.
For induction brazing, we review process settings, coil condition and positioning, heating consistency and control of the brazing cycle.
CQI-29 specifically covers CAB, vacuum, flame and induction brazing for applicable aluminum and stainless-steel applications.
QUALIFIED AUDITORS
Who Performs a VyVy CQI-29 Brazing Audit?
CQI-29 assignments are allocated according to the brazing technology and the automotive requirements involved.
Depending on the project, VyVy assigns IATF 16949 qualified auditors, VDA 6.3 qualified process auditors, CQI special-process specialists, engineers and manufacturing consultants with relevant joining-process and supplier-quality experience.
The selected profile must understand the process being audited.
A CAB furnace for automotive heat exchangers requires different technical competence from an induction-brazed component or a manually controlled flame-brazing operation.
Where specific brazing experience, OEM background or customer approval is required, we verify this before confirming the assignment.
Auditor CVs and relevant qualifications can be provided for client approval.
